Pierce Park Trail Trees

We have created adoption designation levels for each tree based on its circumference. Trees that are between 8′ and 12′ are ACORNS ($75 donation); trees between 12′ and 16′ are EVERGREENS ($100 donation); and trees 16′ and over are CENTENARIANS ($150 donation).
The minimum circumference requirement for registration with the national Live Oak Society is 8 feet.

“The Hezekiah Oak”

Tree PPT-5

Circumference: 12′ 4″

Canopy: 81′

Evergreen

Live Oak Society Member #7589

This mighty oak is dedicated in honor of Chris Frisby for his tireless service and dedication as president of the Daniel Island Historical Society Board of Directors from 2019 to 2021. Prior to his leadership post, Chris served as vice president of programs for DIHS. He named the tree “Hezekiah,” in honor of his third great grandfather, Hezekiah Watson, who was a soldier in the famous Massachusetts 54th Regiment from 1863-1865. He served in Charleston, fighting and sustaining injury at the Battle of Fort Wagner on Morris Island. The name Hezekiah translates from the Hebrew to mean roughly, “he who God has strengthened.” “This, it would seem, would be a fitting tribute and name for one of our live oaks which has grown great and strong over time,” noted Chris.
