The Daniel Island Historical Society is thrilled to welcome back previous guest speaker Dr. David Dangerfield, a native of Berkeley County who currently serves as Assistant Professor of History at the University of South Carolina – Salkehatchie. This special program will explore a fascinating group of Lowcountry families who negotiated their ambiguous racial statuses and citizenship by serving in the Confederate military.

Dr. Dangerfield is an assistant professor of history at the University of South Carolina – Salkehatchie. He holds a Ph.D. in history from USC, an M.A. in history from the College of Chalreston/The Citadel, and a B.A. in history from Erskine College. He is a native of the Lowcountry and has been a member of the USC-Salkehatchie faculty since 2015. His research interests include free persons of color and non-elite whites in the antebellum South and South Carolina history.

This program is free and open to all.  Please join us.
