  1. We will be honored to hear from Dr. Rebecca Shumway, of The College of Charleston. Dr. Shumway will present a lecture entitled “From West Africa to Charleston: The Transatlantic Slave Trade and Charleston’s International African American Museum”

She will give an overview of the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, with particular reference to the Charleston-Ghana connection, and talk about how the slave trade is remembered in Ghana, and how that history will be interpreted in the new International African American Museum IAAM coming to Charleston in 2020, of which she is a member of the advisory board.
