How important was Daniel Island and the greater Cainhoy Peninsula to the British “Southern Strategy” to conquer America during the Revolutionary War? What role did these areas play in terms of sustaining the British occupation of Charleston? And how did the natural environment and disease affect military control of the Cainhoy Peninsula? Get the answers to these questions and more as the Daniel Island Historical Society welcomes local resident and author Ken Scarlett as guest speaker of our January 17 program at 7 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island. In this not-to-be-missed program, Mr. Scarlett will talk with us about his recently released book “Victory Day – Winning American Independence: The Defeat of the British Southern Strategy,” as well as what he has uncovered in his latest research on the Revolutionary War and its ties to our area.

Mr. Scarlett will sign copies of the book after the program and they will be available for purchase at a 10% discount for attendees.

You do not have to be a DIHS member to attend. As always, our monthly programs are free and open to all. That said, membership dues are vital to the continuation of the group and our many programs in the community. For information on how you can become a member, CLICK HERE.
