Members Only Tour of Fort Sumter

It’s the stories behind the human figures, the garrison, events, battles, and the politics of unprecedented national growth that make a Fort Sumter visit personal, fun and the most interesting. Then hearing those stories where they actually happened… makes it very special indeed!

DIHS members are invited to register for either of our tour dates with Board Member Rich Dorval at rtdorval@gmail.com (you must be a member in good standing to attend). Join us at Fort Sumter National Park, Liberty Square, downtown Charleston at 10:15 am, to have three hours exploring this national treasure together, rediscovering it, and hearing some historical nuggets certain to intrigue. This is in addition to the Ranger Talk, which you will also hear on the ferry.

The DIHS Tour will include the Visitors Center at Liberty Square, the Fort Sumter structural ruins, including the Museum and Observation Deck. Rich will be available for questions on the return ferry ride.

DIHS participants will simply drive to Fort Sumter National Park, pay your own visitors fees at the window, then meet with our group in the Visitors Center. There is no additional fee to DIHS members.   There is a 15 member group cap for each date due to space restrictions.

Please note that a “Member in good standing “is registered with DIHS in any one of the membership offerings on the DIHS website i.e. Individual, Couple, Family, or Student, with dues paid up to date. Being on the Newsletter circulation list alone is NOT membership.
