Fort Moultrie Private Tour for DIHS Members

Fort Moultrie, our Charleston guardian of the straits from the arrival of our earliest European settlements to the end of World War II, is part of our coastal fortifications protecting the shores and harbors of the United States. At Fort Moultrie, the 172-year story spanning two centuries of seacoast defense is told through the unique plan of restoration. Five sections of the fort and two outlying areas, each mounting typical weapons, represent the different historical periods in the life of the three Fort Moultries. This is truly an outdoor museum. Monuments, grave sites and flags in the park will also be presented. You probably never realized what an amazing history sits in our own backyard, even if you have visited before! Join us and be amazed!

Members will provide their own transportation to Fort Moultrie to meet in the parking lot at 9:45 am. Everyone will pay their own admission fee of $10.00/person upon entering the Visitors Center. National Park passes are accepted, also free to military and veterans with proof of service ID.

A 90-minute private tour of the center, grounds and Fort will be provided by Rich Dorval, a member of the DIHS Board of Directors and a National Park Service VIP. The Park theatre also offers a video that you are welcome to view following our tour.

Members can join the event registration list to attend by emailing Rich Dorval at rtdorval@gmail.com  by Monday, October 14^th.  Please include your full name, and indicate if you are bringing a guest, in your email. We will respond with a confirmation and additional information when you’re added to the roster. Registration will close when our group is full.
