From a land once known for its quiet pastures and hunting grounds to an award-winning master planned community that is now home to thousands – the Daniel Island community is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year! Please join the Daniel Island Historical Society as we take a look back at this very special island town and its evolution over the last two decades. Joining us as guest speakers will be Daniel Island Company President Matt Sloan, Charleston Museum Curator of Historical Archaeology Martha Zierdan, Daniel Island long-time resident Judy Jackson, and Daniel Island News Editor/Publisher Suzanne Detar. Learn about how the Daniel Island community came to be, the archaeological treasures found here and what they tell us about our island’s history, the stories of one of our first resident’s “pioneering” days on the island, and the memories and moments captured along the way by our island’s very own community newspaper. This not-to-be-missed program will be held on Tuesday, May 17, from 7 to 8:30 pm at Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island. A celebratory reception will be held from 6:30 to 7 and will feature a display of island mementos. For additional information on DIHS, please visit www.dihistoricalsociety.com.
