Brick making was an essential task in the Charleston from the earliest days…whether for houses or to construct the wall to protect the infant city from potential Spanish invasion.  At our February 20 meeting Southwick “Cary” Briggs will present on the history of brick making, both locally and more broadly. Cary owns a firm that specializes in producing period-correct bricks, and he works in consultation with places like Colonial Williamsburg, The American College for the Building Arts, and other institutions.  It should be another interesting session but even better, Cary has offered to follow his February talk with an opportunity for our group to take part in a participatory demonstration of brick making sometime later this spring or summer on a Saturday.
