Bishop England is more than a school on Daniel Island. Author Tommy McQueeney will discuss how Bishop John England came to the Carolina coast, a land at the beginning that was not very welcoming to non-protestant religions participating in the state’s religious and civic institutions. Times had changed when Bishop England arrived in 1820 but he still had to face many challenges; trouble in Charleston, an obsolete parish in Savannah and barely a presence in North Carolina. Join the Daniel Island Historical Society on January 20, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Holy Cross Church on Daniel Island for an informative look at the history of the man, Bishop John England, and the school that bears his name.
