DIHS is getting back together with in person meetings beginning October 19!

Leading our presentation will be Brockington’s senior archaeologist Eric Poplin and analytical specialist Jeff Sherard. Both have done extensive archaeological work on Daniel Island and are excited to share their insights with you!

Bring any artifacts or items of historical significance you have found in your exploration of the island and Eric and Jeff will help you identify them and the time period they represent. But that’s not all you can expect from this not-to-be-missed program!

Eric, Jeff and the Brockington team are the principal investigators behind the recent demolition of the Calhoun Monument in downtown Charleston – and its rather famous niche/“time capsule” and the commemorative items placed there in 1858. Get behind the scenes details on these investigations and the latest on what their research has revealed on these important artifacts.

PLUS, learn more about Brockington’s recent excavation and study of the former Robert Daniell homesite along the Wando River! Hope to see you there – 7 to 8 pm, Tues. October 19 at Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island, 299 Seven Farms Drive.

DIHS will follow all recommended CDC guidelines concerning Covid, which includes encouraging social distancing and mask wearing when appropriate.
