The Golden Age of Piracy produced some of the most outrageous characters in maritime history…especially here in Charleston! From its earliest days, Charleston was a vital port of call and center of trade, which left it vulnerable to seafaring criminals.  Join us as we explore the daring exploits of the infamous plunderers who left us with a history as rocky as the high seas! Learn more about the “Gentleman Pirate” Stede Bonnet, Edward “Blackbeard” Teach, pirate hunter and statesman William Rhett, and others.  Our guest speaker, Author Christopher Byrd Downey, will expose the dastardly deeds that took place during Charleston’s piracy reign and will also share with us  how our island namesake, Governor Robert Daniell, responded to the buccaneers’ threat. See you on February 17 as we set sail for a swashbuckling good time!
