We just observed the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote! OK, it took South Carolina until 1959 to ratify it, but women still had the right to vote. Unless of course they were women of color!
We’ve overcome all that now, haven’t we? Claims of voter suppression and allegations about potential problems with mail ballots are filling the news.
The women’s vote is increasingly important, particularly in presidential election years and, in 2020, it’s widely considered the key to the election.
Our September 15th speaker, Barbara Griffin, President of the Charleston League of Women Voters, will put both the history and the presence in perspective for us. As mentioned above, this will be a virtual meeting via the ZOOM platform. To join the 7 pm, Tuesday, September 15 meeting click the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84576213802
Please mute the microphone on your device when you join the meeting. After Ms Griffin’s presentation you can unmute your mic as she takes questions from you and other virtual participants.
