If you are keeping up with the news, you realize history is being rewritten every day! So maybe it’s time for a bit of reflection and Common Sense!
The Guilder Lehrman Institute has an event coming up to help you do just that!
INSIDE THE VAULT Thomas Paine’s Common Sense Please join us for Inside the Vault on July 7 at 7 pm ET. Our curators will discuss Thomas Paine’s pamphlet Common Sense with Eric Slauter, Associate Professor of English, University of Chicago. Published anonymously in January 1776, Common Sense advocated for colonial independence from Great Britain. It sold around 500,000 copies and is considered one of the most influential pamphlets in American history. What made this pamphlet so powerful, and how did it help bring about American independence? We will address these questions and more. Register here for our July program. Related resources are available here. Submit your questions for Professor Slauter here. RSVP FOR INSIDE THE VAULT |
