DIHS TO PARTNER WITH LOCAL AUTHOR ON WRITING PROJECT
“The Days Of (Not So) Long Ago”
History is being brought to light on Daniel Island by those who have the greatest insights to share. Local author and Daniel Island resident Crystal Klimavicz, who wrote the book Falling Through Trees, has embarked on a new writing project that involves documenting the life stories of some of the island’s oldest living residents. Crystal is in the process of conducting oral histories that she will compile into a book entitled “The Days of (Not So) Long Ago.”
“This project is an undertaking designed to capture life stories from elders living on Daniel Island,” said Crystal. “Their stories are intended to provide insight into our past, offer glimpses into our history, and ultimately to serve as a memorable piece of historical literature for all residents living on the Island and beyond.”
The Daniel Island Historical Society is helping to sponsor the project. Crystal hopes to interview approximately 12 to 15 residents, focusing on the stories of their pasts, including memories of childhoods, wartime recollections, or a simple recount of an event in their lives. Each story will be approximately four pages in length, and will be accompanied by a picture of the individual featured, as well as a one-page biography.
“The Daniel Island Historical Society is thrilled to be able to support Crystal in this important project,” stated DIHS President Brenda Thorn. “Our mission as an organization is to share the island’s story with both residents and visitors. This book will not only help to fulfill that mission, but it will also focus attention on a number of special people in our community who deserve our recognition. If there is one thing history has taught us, it is that there is great wisdom to be learned from those who have gone before us. We are excited to read their stories!”
Seniors Needed!
Crystal is asking the community to help her identify residents to profile in the book. If you know of a senior who is living on the island and would like to participate, please contact her at crystalklimaviczwrites@gmail.com.
