When DIHS decided to dedicate one of our island’s historic oaks in recognition of outgoing President Chris Frisby’s service to the group, Chris had the option of naming the Smythe Park tree. He chose to reach back into his family’s past and celebrate a link that is vibrant in local history.
“He named the tree “Hezekiah,” in honor of his third great grandfather, Hezekiah Watson, who was a soldier in the famous Massachusetts 54th Regiment from 1863-1865. He served in Charleston, fighting and sustaining injury at the Battle of Fort Wagner on Morris Island.”
