Robert Daniel Birthday History Cruise

So…..it finally happened. And it was a huge success.

It was supposed to be a history cruise to celebrate the 375th birthday of Daniel Island namesake Robert Daniell….but covid caused a cancellation. And then we had to push it back a week because Daniell’s birthday fell on Easter Sunday this year. But no one is more persistent than event organizer Beth Bush. Here’s her report on today’s event. And yes, she took the pictures in the gallery below.

The Daniel Island Historical Society set sail on a wonderful celebration this afternoon – commemorating the 376th birthday of our island’s namesake, Governor Robert Daniell. Our first ever Robert Daniell Birthday Cruise was a huge success with close to 40 people joining in for the festivities. A highlight of the event was a fantastic presentation by DIHS Co-Founder Mike Dahlman on Gov. Daniell and the history of Daniel Island. Special thanks to the crew of the Daniel Island Ferry for providing such a wonderful ride and excellent service on this beautiful day! We even got to sing Happy Birthday to Governor Daniell, whose birthday was April 20. Another highlight was having one of Governor Daniell’s descendents, Jeannie Ball, on board with us. So grateful Jeannie, who traveled up from Georgia for the event, could be a part of our celebration.

In case you’ve been wondering what it sounds like when a ferry load of DIHS members sing Happy 376th Birthday to island namesake Robert Daniell…
