The ‘Honoring Our Living History: Live Oak Campaign’ is one of DIHS’ longest continuing programs. The effort to ‘adopt’ the island’s magnificent oaks slowed down a bit during the pandemic and also took a hit when the national Live Oak Society (headquartered in Louisiana on the Gulf Coast) suffered from several hurricanes. Hard to do record keeping when your files are underwater.
But it appears things are back up and running, and project coordinator Mark Haebig has shared information on two more tree adoptions joining the “official” status.
