Memorial Day is kind of a mixed bag. For most American’s it’s the kick off of summer. The weather’s getting good, school is almost over, there are burgers on the grill.
For others (and of course, there’s plenty of overlap) it’s a time to remember those who served, and gave their lives, for our country. It’s as relevant today as it was after the Civil War. See THE FIRST DECORATION DAY.

The four recognized cemeteries on Daniel Island are getting more attention than they have in a long time (See HISTORY HERO RICHARD PORTER) but they’re not on many people’s daily path. To locate them, or to take a virtual tour, visit DANIEL ISLAND CEMETERIES.
