Memorial Day, originally Decoration Day, is when much of the country pauses and remembers the men and women who have helped keep us free. That’s fine. But is one day enough?

One of the Daniel Island Historical Society’s ongoing projects is assisting in the cleanup and maintenance of cemeteries here on the Island and the Cainhoy Peninsula. Those efforts recently received an Award of Merit from the Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies…CLICK HERE and HERE for more on the projects singled out for the awards.
The cemeteries project, in particular, is a year-round effort. Cemetery chairman Dick Porter and his committee are doing herculean work, but more hands would be appreciated.
Want to pitch in? Email us at dihistoricalsociety@gmail.com and your contact info will be passed on to Dick Porter. Thanks in advance!
