Butch and MaeRe Skinner, a couple who help lead the fight to preserve Cainhoy history, are asking you to lend a helping hand this weekend.
“PLEASE COME HELP! THIS SATURDAY MORNING:
Announcing the annual CHRISTMAS Cleanup of the HISTORIC Cainhoy Old Ruins Cemetery located just next to Oak Bluff Subdivision off Clements Ferry Road. We will meet inside the main entrance of Berket’s Bend street at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday December 18, 2021, and drive up to the gate. They promise to have the road clear for us.
Please arrive with mowers, weed eaters, blowers, rakes, hedge clippers, etc. Remember that there is no power out there, so charge or fill your equipment. Wear heavy shoes, bring bug spray ( just in case).
This is such a remarkable event to care for this amazing site that was established as a Meeting House in 1699! This year will be the first time we will honor 3 PATRIOTS on Wreaths Across America day that are buried there. One is a Rev War Vet, One is Spanish American War, and one is WWII! We will also try to get through to the African American side for beginnings of clean up there with our dear friend Fred Lincoln and other descendants. This will be a very important and meaningful day!! We haven’t been able to access it since early spring so it will require much work! We thank all our Cainhoy families who are willing to help preserve this valuable Historic Site. I promise to give much of the History of this site while we are there..
