EXPLORING BERKELEY COUNTY HISTORY

Ever wonder how Berkeley County got its name? Who was known as “The Swamp Fox” and what was Berkeley County’s role in the American Revolution? What was Native American life like in our area thousands of years ago – and what remnants of that important history remain? How does the Cainhoy peninsula and Daniel Island fit into the Berkeley County story?

Get the answers to these questions and much more as the Daniel Island Historical Society welcomes guest speakers Chelsy Proper and Shanda Phillips of the Berkeley County Museum & Heritage Center for “Exploring Berkeley County History” on Tuesday, November 16, from 7-8 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island (299 Seven Farms Drive).

The Berkeley County Museum & Heritage Center in Moncks Corner tells a story over 12,000 years old. The facility opened its doors in 1992 in a new building reminiscent of an old working plantation home. Our guest speakers for this special DIHS program will take you on a virtual behind-the-scenes of the museum, with special glimpses of its artifacts and unique exhibits, including the museum’s newest exhibit “Revolution Comes South: Berkeley County’s place in the American Revolution.” Join us!
