DUELING PROGRAM WAS FASCINATING!

We had a great program Tuesday night as Grahame Long of the Charleston Museum shared “Charleston’s Dueling Legacy.” Long walked us through the long, strange history of dueling that left Charleston, in his estimation, as the American city with the most duels. In fact, South Carolina is the only state that still has a law on the books that treats death from dueling as a crime separate from capital murder. In an equally weird twist, that death by dueling statute was invoked as recently as 2009!

If you were fascinated by Tuesday’s program….or if you missed the program and want to know what you missed….take the opportunity for a free read of Long’s book on Amazon Prime. Extra bonus….there’s also a free read of the 19th century dueling guide book Long mention (The Code of Honor, Or, Rules for the Government of Principals and Seconds in Duelling) by John Lyde Wilson.
