ARE YOU READY FOR SOME HISTORY?  Time to mark your calendars!  September marks the return of our monthly sessions and VP Chris Frisby has some terrific speakers lined up.  We’re still nailing down some details but here’s what we know so far:

Tuesday, September 18 (7 pm, Church of the Holy Cross, 299 Seven Farms Dr) we’ll hear from Dr. Kyle  Sinisi of The Citadel  on a Charleston Civil War topic to be determined.   For more on Dr. Sinisi click here.

Tuesday, October 16 (7 pm, Church of the Holy Cross, 299 Seven Farms Dr) our speaker will be Dr. Rebecca Shumway, College of Charleston.  Her topic will be The Transatlantic Slave Trade,  Historic connections between Ghana and South Carolina.  Here’s more information on Dr. Shumway.

Tuesday, November 13 (7 pm, Church of the Holy Cross, 299 Seven Farms Dr) Leigh Moring, Education Coordinator at the Historic Charleston Foundation will talk about Nathanael Greene and American Revolution.  Learn more here.   PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TUESDAY OF NOVEMBER TO AVOID ANY INTERFERENCE WITH YOUR THANKSGIVING PLANS!

PLUS….A BONUS FIELD TRIP!  Do you remember the terrific presentation on colonial brickmaking in February by Cary Briggs?  Chris and Cary are working out details for a September Saturday field trip where you’ll get to be hands on with the building blocks of local history.  Stay tuned for more details…and refresh your memory of Cary’s February presentation elsewhere on our DIHS website blog at https://dihistoricalsociety.com/blog/who-knew-bricks-are-so-interesting/
