Daniell Family Members Check Out Their Roots

WHAT’S IN A NAME? A lot, if you ask members of the Daniell family of Arkansas. Michael Daniell, a descendent of Daniel Island’s namesake, Robert Daniell, reached out to the Daniel Island Historical Society recently to let us know he would be visiting the island with his wife, Jodie, and sons, Colby and Brady, over the July 4th holiday. DIHS Co-founders Mike Dahlman and Beth Bush met the family at Waterfront Park to take them on a tour of the shoreline near the park to see the location of Robert Daniell’s former homesite. Although the actual site is currently not accessible due to construction of the new Waterfront community, they were able to see the general location. Mike, co-author of the book “Daniel Island,” shared information about the Daniell family’s history on the island, as well as the community’s evolution since the Daniells first settled on the island in the late 1690s.

EDITOR’S NOTE: I just want to point out that all these years after founding DIHS, Mike Dahlman and Beth Bush continue to work tirelessly on the organization’s mission to spread the word about the Island’s history. Thank you Beth and Mike!
