Thirty third graders at Cainhoy Elementary School have joined the ranks of local students creating their versions of the ironwork of local icon Philip Simmons under the leadership of classroom teachers Victoria Huerth and Demmie Harden and Cainhoy art teacher Janell Walker.
Walker facilitated the creation of the Simmons “gates” with research help from Harden and Huerth.
This was the first year the Cainhoy third graders did a Simmons Art Show joining third and eighth graders at Philip Simmons Elementary, Philip Simmons Middle and Daniel Island School.
The art shows are one of the community projects sponsored by DIHS under the leadership of Community Outreach Director Lee Ann Bain.
Bain said Cainhoy students are “very talented.”
See some of that talented work in the attached pictures.
