If you enjoyed our October program “Matriarch of the Charleston Renaissance, you’ll be glad to know there’s another opportunity to explore the intersection of art and history in our community.
Charleston’s Gibbes Museum currently has an exhibition “Realm of the Spirit: Solomon R. Guggenheim Collection and Gibbes Museum of Art. “
The Guggenheim family connection with Daniel Island and the Cainhoy peninsula has been featured in several DIHS programs and the family’s relationship with the Gibbes dates back to the 1930’s.
Great -granddaughter Wendy McNeill says the family is thrilled that some of the pieces of the Guggenheim collection exhibited 80 years ago are back at the Gibbes, if only temporarily.
