One of the ways DIHS says THANK YOU! to our dues paying members is with members only events through out the year. In October, board member Rich Dorval led a group on a special tour of Fort Moultrie.
On Thursday, Decemeber ,12 Rich led another special, members only excursion….this time to the annual Creche Festival at Mepkin Abbey. This year’s theme is “Nativity in Glass and Under Glass. Rich also gave the group some glimpses at the rich history of the property. Before becoming a Trappist Monastery it was owned by Henry and Clare Boothe Luce.
In its early life the property served as the seven-thousand-acre rice plantation and family home of the eighteenth-century statesman Henry Laurens.
The Creche Festival and the historic property hosting it made for a terrific day that was both enjoyable and educational.
